September 30th Recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Letter for parents/guardians. The PRSD Board of Trustees voted yesterday to observe the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on Thursday, September 30th. This means there will be no classes for students as they are given the day to recognize and honour residential school survivors, their families and their communities. It will also ensure that public commemoration of the tragic and painful history and legacy of residential schools remains a vital component of the reconciliation process. The board also voted that September 27 to October 1, 2021 be declared Truth and Reconciliation Week in PRSD schools. By dedicating a full week to Truth and Reconciliation, schools will have the flexibility to select a minimum of one school day within the week to recognize Orange Shirt Day while students learn about the history and legacy of residential schools. Other learning activities that support Truth and Reconciliation will also be encouraged.
